Frequently Asked Questions
What is IndiaTweetz and how do I use it?
IndiaTweetz is a one stop place for tapping real time news and conversations about India by leveraging Twitter.
It aims to answer one basic question: "What's going on in India?".
IndiaTweetz can be treated like a news forum where you can get India related information from various
sources in one place, view comments and opinions about the information from people all over the world and can stay
up to date in real time with the buzz in India. You can leverage the platform to collaborate with people,
including Indian celebrities, to discuss issues, seek an opinion or
voice a concern. You can contribute to the content of IndiaTweetz by tagging your tweets appropriately.
What is Twitter and how do people use it?
Twitter is a micro-blogging and social networking service that enables users to send and receive short
140 character messages known as Tweets. Tweets can be sent and received using the Twitter website, or SMS
or other external applications like IndiaTweetz.
Do I have to have a Twitter account to use IndiaTweetz?
You do NOT have to have a Twitter account to READ the information on IndiaTweetz or
to access the links in the tweets. However if you wish to retweet, reply to or
post a tweet from IndiaTweetz you will need to sign in using your Twitter credentials.
Please note we DO NOT store any of your credentials and don't have access to it. We will redirect you to
the Twitter website to sign in.
How do I make sure my tweet shows up in a particular tab?
By tagging your tweets appropriately. When you click on a tab the Twitter message box
gets updated with an appropriate tag. Use those tags to tweet and your tweets will show up
in the appropriate place.
I live in India. Can I tweet using SMS?
Yes you can. Twitter has partnered with Bharti Airtel to let you SMS your tweets.
You can also use a India shortcode while SMS'ing from India.
The Tweets contains symbols like @ and #. What do those mean?
The "@" symbol is usually followed by a user name implying it is calling for the attention of the user. For
example if a tweet from janedoe says @johndoe it means janedoe is either replying to one of johndoe's
earlier tweets or requesting for johndoe's attention or simply referring to johndoe in her tweet.
The "#" symbol is used to tag a tweet with a keyword. Hashtags are metadata assigned to the tweet
so that it can be searched easily in the context of that keyword. For example, any breaking news in India
can be hashtagged as #india #news. So if anyone searches for #india #news, the appropriate tweets will show up.
What is the difference between RT and reply?
RT or ReTweet will let you repost the 'same message' posted by another Twitter user so that your followers can see it.
Reply lets you post another tweet in response to someone else's tweet.
Are all the users who are showing up registered on your website?
No. They are all Twitter users and they post their tweets to Twitter. We do not register any users.
I don't see any content in the tab, it returns the message "An error has occurred"?
Since IndiaTweetz depends on Twitter, if Twitter goes down or is slow in serving up content, IndiaTweetz will behave similarly.
Check if you can access Twitter. If Twitter is up and running and you cannot view data in IndiaTweetz only, then please contact us.
